Theo & Megan
Theo slid into my DM with a direct request for a proposal photoshoot. But not just any shoot – a secret one.
⠀
The concept was to capture a specific moment, at a specific spot on Waiheke Island, where he would go down on one knee, offering his hand and heart, while I lurked in the bushes, capturing all the emotions of his beloved one.
⠀
However, just a couple of days before the big day, I got a message: "She's suspicious, we need to change the plan." Poor Theo! So many nerves and so much time invested in planning, all seemingly in vain! - I thought.
⠀
We brainstormed for a while about a new location, the one that would go without a hitch and, most importantly, without the girl suspecting anything. We settled on a new spot – Devonport, Cheltenham Beach. Then a new idea emerged, and I suggested to Theo that we should use a drone to film the actual proposal. We swapped out the scene in the bushes for something less nerve-wracking, which, to be honest, I was pretty relieved about it, “LOL”.
⠀
My task was to hide on a nearby street and pilot the drone. It worked like a charm, the girl didn't see a thing… So, I managed to capture a video of the proposal itself, and made screenshots of the video. Then setting the drone down on the sand, we kicked off the actual photoshoot.
⠀
The couple was so wrapped up in their happiness for each other, that all I had to do was gently guide them to their mark. Truly, the best results in photography are achieved through the collaboration of the photographer and the subjects. “After all, I'm not just capturing faces; I'm capturing genuine emotions, and trying to seize a moment, where people truly reflect themselves”.
